November 17th is World Prematurity Day. As Jennifer Howse, President of March of Dimes notes in a recent message to supporters:
Even though its preterm birth rate has declined for the 5th year in a row, the United States still ranks 131st in the world.
This trend is true in Puerto Rico as well; while preterm birth rates have dipped slightly, they are still dramatically higher than the rest of the U.S. The 2012 report by the World Health Organization and the March of Dimes shows that worldwide, Puerto Rico has the third-highest preterm birth rate (16.7% in 2010), only better than Malawi and the Congo.
The PROTECT team is proud to work on addressing this important societal problem.
