The PROTECT team would like to congratulate David Kaeli, PROTECT Data Core Leader, on his appointment as Distinguished Professor at Northeastern University’s College of Engineering.

Professor David Kaeli

Professor Kaeli is renowned nationally and internationally for his scholarly contributions to the field of Computer Architecture.  He has published over 250 peer-reviewed publications, holds 9 U.S. patents, and has co-authored three textbooks, including the leading text used in Computer Architecture and a highly popular text on heterogeneous computing. He was elected IEEE Fellow in 2010.  As Director of the Northeastern University Computer Architecture Research laboratory, Dave has graduated 19 Ph.D. students. He regularly supervises more than 10 doctoral students and many Master and undergraduate students whom he has been supporting through numerous research grants, including as PI of the $1.3M NSF Biomedical Image Analysis Toolbox Project, co-PI on the NSF BIOSense Research Experiences for Undergraduates Site Program, Project Leader in the NSF CenSSIS Center and Data Core Leader for the NIEHS PROTECT SRP Center.  Professor Kaeli has been awarded 18 NSF grants (7 for which he was PI), including the NSF Career award, serves as co-PI on the $8M Scholarship for Service program over eight years, and is a leader in industry-supported research on campus having received support from major computer hardware/software companies such as AMD, IBM, Intel, Analog Devices, Google, Microsoft and Samsung.  He has also shown leadership in his professional community, serving as Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Computer Architecture (currently completing his second term), as General/Program Chair for over 11 IEEE and ACM meetings, and as Associate Editor for two leading journals in Parallel Computing and one in Code Optimization.

Professor Kaeli leads the Data Core, which provides the PROTECT Center with efficient collection, cleaning and effective management of the biomedical, xenobiotic, demographic and environmental data being collected and analyzed across the project. This core also provides support for environment contamination fate and transport modeling, Geographic Information System (GIS) support, multi-dimensional data mining and visualization and programming expertise to build customized user interfaces that allow for efficient and accurate data entry and data analysis.
