Lily Rajic – Postdoc on Project 5
Ljiljana “Lily” Rajic is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Dr. Akram Alshawabkeh’s lab. She is working on advancing the electrochemical oxidation and reduction of trichloroethylene (TCE) in flow-through systems as part of Project 5, which is developing sustainable and environmentally-friendly technologies for remediation of contaminated groundwater.
Before coming to Northeastern, Lily received her doctorate in Environmental Chemistry from the Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad, Republic of Serbia. Her doctoral research was focused on electrochemical treatment of contaminated heterogeneous materials. After finishing the doctorate, her goal was to expand her knowledge and to further develop skills in electrochemical processes. In support of this goal, Lily joined PROTECT in January 2013.
Apart from the professional development, Lily says “participating in PROTECT gives her an opportunity to make a difference beyond laboratory work. It is interesting and challenging to be able to contribute to the development of a technology which has such potential.” One of the things she has found most interesting about PROTECT is the ability of the institutions to collaborate at distance and the way that information and data flow across the center through the projects.
